My name is Brian Corey, for the past 16 years it has been my profession and my pleasure to teach visual art to individuals of various ages: as a longtime public school art instructor of grades 5-8, and more recently as a higher education studio art instructor.
I have a strong background in developing art curriculum that promotes the investigation of contemporary visual culture through studio practices that invite personal exploration through various stages of artistic development. I believe there must be more to a visual arts program than teaching the mechanics of various art skills and self-expression. In my classroom the student is actively engaged in exploration of medium, content, and aesthetics. To that end, the work of my class often extends beyond the classroom, interweaving gallery talks, visiting artists, and exhibitions into the framework of our studies together.
